deMx Architecture is a young design-oriented architecture firm in Fayetteville, AR. The firm was founded by Tim deNoble, former department head of the Fay Jones School of Architecture, and our managing principal,Tim Maddox, AIA.
We were founded with a belief that vernacular building types are the buildings that we could learn our greatest lessons from. Vernacular buildings, such as barns, sheds, silos, and local houses all exhibit our most essential responses to the environment. They are built, almost by definition, with context and function being priority. These buildings are not built with style or prestige in mind, and therefore they age with grace, gaining value over time and do not reflect trends or dated values.
Our other inspiration, Modernism, is dependent on the ideals of material production and assembly. Like vernacularism, Modernism was absent of an Architectural Style and the market forces that drove those styles. Modernism focused on appropriate and efficient material use and the design's response to its site.
Our practice combines these two design approaches, which allows us to pursue sustainable practices rooted in efficiency, appropriate material choices, and contextual response. We strive to make efficient, rational decisions that are not dictated by style. It is our belief that an architecture of dignity emerges from these ideals.
deMx Architecture is committed to providing professional architectural services that meet or exceed our client’s expectations. We work as a team to create and produce work that is within our client’s budget and schedule. Our engineering consultants and contractors are vital team members on all of our projects. We have established relationships, and developed a collaborative approach with them. Using Building Information Modeling (BIM), we provide timely services by streamlining exchanges of information, and minimizing conflicts between disciplines. This technology helps us begin collaboration with our consultants at the most ideal and practical time.
We greatly value the practice of responsible design, integrating the imperative of environmental sustainability within the strategic goals of every project. Through our practice we’ve developed a rich understanding of the science, materials and processes of green building. Our goal is always to achieve efficient, adaptable and simple solutions that sustain people, business, and the natural environment. We are dedicated to being good listeners, and are respectful stewards of our client’s goals and budget.
Through individual honors, design awards, and publications, we have been recognized on both state and national levels for our work. This range of experience has allowed us to study the unique needs of many clients and businesses including, housing, urban planning, disability advocacy, hospitality, healthcare, education, logistics, and emergency services. We approach each project as a unique problem with a design solution individuated by client interests, building typologies, and local environments.
